December 7, 2012

Managing the business of a large corporation requires care and attention. As a consequence, counsel will be called upon to guide senior management through the legal pitfalls of a wide range of corporate events, such as cooperative mergers, hostile takeovers, major global litigation, internal investigations, employee misconduct, and public relations crises. Success of inside and outside counsel necessarily depends upon effective interaction, both with each other and with company leadership. The Institute for Corporate Counsel, co-sponsored by the New York City Bar and Thomson Reuters, will allow both in house and outside counsel to step inside the executive suite and learn from some of the most successful legal officers in global industry. Divided into hour-long sessions, each panel will feature a different group of general counsel from some the world’s largest and most successful public corporations. Each panel will focus on a distinct subject area, and each panelist will be asked to draw from their real world experience to describe the planning, strategy, and foresight that is required to add significant value to the operations of the corporation. At midday, the groups will gather together for a lunch followed by a keynote address by former Head of the Justice Department’s Antitrust Division Christine Varney and current White House Counsel Kathryn Ruemmler.
