This panel will give an overview before discussing the current developments in the area of parallel proceedings among criminal, civil, and administrative agencies. Parallel proceedings have the potential to maximize government resources, but they also run the risk of working at cross-purposes and infringing defendants' rights. We will discuss ethical and strategic considerations for prosecutors and defense attorneys who confront investigations or litigation by more than one government agency and best practices for maximizing efficiency among agencies, sharing information, coordinating discovery, and safeguarding defendants' rights. Although this program is intended for those practicing in criminal law, all litigators as well attorneys in other practice areas are invited to attend.
