Latest Developments In Renewable Energy Financing (Post-Stimulus)

March 19, 2012

The February 2009 Stimulus Law (the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act) was a watershed in federal government support of renewable energy projects, especially the grant-in-lieu of investment tax credit program which provided project owners a cash subsidy of 30% of the value of the installed equipment. The grant program gave a great boost to renewable energy projects. It expired on December 31, 2011, however, and seems unlikely to be renewed. An experienced faculty of legal practitioners in the field of renewable energy project development and finance will discuss renewable project structure and finance in the post-grant era. Will the industry revert to complicated tax equity structures used before the grant? What are other structuring/financing options? What is the future of renewable energy in an era of cheap natural gas? and stringent financing criteria? The program will be oriented towards what attorneys need to know to help their clients navigate the complex array of incentives and structures to permit successful development of renewable energy projects in a challenging regulatory and financial environment.
