As social media sites have gained popularity, more and more lawyers are using sites such as Twitter, Facebook, MySpace, and LinkedIn for: investigative research; discovery; trial preparation; sentencing; background checks (of clients, the opposition, other attorneys, jurors, and judges); and locating missing people (heirs, witnesses, evasive defendants, or even escapees). Nationally recognized Internet trainers and authors of The Cybersleuth's Guide to the Internet showed you how to find and use social media profiles to unearth factual and investigative information. Attendees of this seminar will gain a competitive edge by learning how to put this information to use for trials and transactions. In addition, you learned about the potential ethical pitfalls of social media and how to avoid them. Instead of first turning to experts, skip tracers, and private investigators, seminar attendees learned how to be their own Cybersleuth.
